Job Description

Job Purpose:

  • Manage every aspect of the catering within the location delivering a service to customers which supports happy living, is of a high quality and meets their dietary needs.
  • To deliver a service within agreed budgets and use resources appropriately.
  • To lead the catering team ensuring food safety standards and health and safety requirements are met. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivering a catering service.
  • Performance of catering team.
  • Control and maintain kitchen stock, equipment, and resources within budget.
  • Compliance with food hygiene and health and safety standards.
  • Identify and report any signs of abuse.
  • Escalate concerns / issues as appropriate.

Key Duties:

  • Implement seasonal menu’s in consultation with customers. 
  • Manage the catering budget and operate services within it.
  • Responsible for effectively recruiting, supervising and training catering staff to carry out their roles managing any performance concerns as and when they arise. 
  • Manage kitchen rota to meet requirements of catering service including holiday and absence cover. 
  • Manage cash received through catering in accordance with policies and procedures. (Extra care / schemes only).

Outcomes of Duties:

  • Customers receive meals at appropriate times of day. 
  • Costs managed within budget. 
  • Purchasing procedures followed. 
  • Low colleague turnover.
  • Financial paperwork completed. 
  • Good working relationship with Care Manager.


  • Proven chef management experience with a recognised catering qualification.


  • Intermediate or level 3 food hygiene certificate.
  • Cater craft or similar award. 


  • People Management.
  • Food safety standards.
  • Health and safety legislation including control of substances harmful to health (COSHH).
  • Basic knowledge of dietary requirements for older people and medical
  • Conditions and the impact of food types on medication.
  • Safe use of knives and kitchen equipment. 


  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to organise time and prioritise activities.

  • Ability to produce meals based on menu’s implemented

Additional Information:

  • This role is Ad-Hoc. Meaning that there will be various shifts that you may be required to undertake with short notice periods at times.
  • This role is based in a variety of locations, some of which include London, North Yorkshire, Surrey, Hampshire. Upon application, please state the location you would prefer to be based in.
  • Bank holidays and weekend shifts rates tend to differ from the regular rate.
