Job Summary:

We are looking for an Employee Relations Adviser who will support our schools and who is passionate about HR.

The role provides a high-quality end to end Human Resources advice, guidance and ER support services to Headteachers, Governors, School Business Managers, staff and related stakeholders. The postholder will also work in wider schools projects within the HR remit.

This is a varied role and an opportunity to develop your skills and experience working with the Schools HR team in a wide range of areas including employee relations, reward, resourcing and training development.

The ideal candidate will have a collaborative and positive approach, can do attitude, be reliable and responsive. Clear and effective communication skills are vital. Previous experience in an ER role providing ER advice is required along with a professional approach and the ability to build effective working relationships.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

Provide high quality professional HR advice and guidance to senior managers on complex staffing issues relating to both individuals and groups of staff.

Build and maintain effective working relationships with supported leaders and other stakeholders, to ensure HR advice supports delivery of positive outcomes.

Build successful partnership working with the trade unions on individual and collective matters establishing productive and proactive dialogue with employees, their representatives to develop services, facilitate change, resolve conflict and promote a positive working environment.

Provide expert advice to Headteachers/Leaders on the application of the school's policies, pay and conditions of service, and on the legal and best practice implications of employment issues. Supporting and undertaking casework on a wide range of human resources issues, including discipline, capability, absence, grievance.

Provide guidance to line managers on how to manage potential ER issues at the informal stage prior to any formal action and necessary follow-on actions, promoting good people management practices across the organisation.

Providing expert professional advice at hearings including Dismissal Appeals, reviewing the cases, looking at the processes followed to date and highlighting policy and legislative implication. Support at Employment Tribunals where necessary liaising with legal colleagues.

Prepare settlement agreement paperwork upon receipt of authorised request, or instruction from the Employee Relations Manager and undertake any necessary follow up case actions.

Essential Experience Required:

Experience of advising on and supporting restructures, redundancies, TUPE and re- deployment as well as good knowledge of ET processes is essential.

Experience of working in a unionised environment and building positive and

productive relationships with unions is essential.

Experience of providing high quality professional HR advice and guidance on complex employment issues is essential.

Experience of of ER procedures and processes such as employment tribunals is essential.

Essential Qualification Required:

CIPD qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience is essential.

Additional information to note:

Working hours: 35 hours per week.

Project work arrangement for 4 to 7 months

The role is hybrid. Most work will be from home and probably once or twice a week, the postholder will need to attend meetings in schools. Though rare, some meetings may be outside 9-5pm, e.g. depending on school availability, a meeting might start at 8 am.
