Job Description

Wokingham Borough Council are looking to recruit an experienced Specialist Grants Officer to join our in house disabled adaptation service based in the Housing Asset Management team. This post can be either fixed term contract or permanent. It is a full time position but there is scope for part time to be considered. The role requires the implementation and effective provision of minor and major adaptations to the homes of tenants and qualifying residents within Wokingham funded via the Local Authority’s Disabled Facilities Grant strategy. Offering a high level of customer service and support the successful candidate will visit customers in their own homes, sometimes independently but frequently with the Housing Occupational Therapist and the Team Surveyor.

  • To be the client’s primary point of contact throughout the referred case and to be the client’s representative within Wokingham Borough Council and with external third parties.
  • Provide a home visiting and office-based advice service to the elderly and disabled clients to discuss their need for repairs, improvements and adaptations to their homes.
  • Advise clients of the financial help available, including grants, welfare benefits, equity release, loans, potential charitable funding and assist them in obtaining any aid to which they are entitled.
  • Ensure that the client understands and is kept informed of all the procedures and practices involved with their particular circumstances and the associated timelines
  • Establish a good working relationship with any relevant local authority departments, health services, housing and voluntary groups who are in contact with the client group.
  • Support the Asset Manager and HAT manager in the promotion of the service and ensure widespread publicity through production of leaflets, media coverage and other promotional methods such as talks to groups or attending relevant events.
  • Keep up to date with developments in relevant fields of work, legislation and research.
  • Arrange to prepare with the case’s Surveyor the schedule of work, specifications and drawings as appropriate, taking into account the client’s needs and wishes.
  • Assist in arranging final inspections, checking final accounts and difficulties within the defects liability period and advise clients on payment.
  • Cross tenure program management balancing cases, priorities, internal resources and contractors/suppliers
  • Ensuring grant spending across the cases is maximized whilst reflecting the client’s needs and remaining within budgetary constraints
  • Carry out cross tenure quarterly and ad hoc forecasting for senior management.
  • Produce monthly operational and quarterly strategic KPIs and associated commentary. Present to Senior Management and WMPB
  • Be responsible for all operational liaison with the Finance function
  • Work with finance team to assess accruals, develop forecasts and ensure a seamless yearend.
